Curious Workings is an independent children’s publishing imprint founded by Shuya Zhong. We turn research and real-world systems into engaging stories, illustrated products and learning experiences that help young readers see how the world around them works.

Everyday life depends on intricate systems that children rarely get to see. We turn those hidden networks of people, decisions, technology and movement into vivid adventures that invite readers to notice, question and understand.

Each project begins with research or a real-world system, then translates it through storytelling, illustration and clear explanation. The aim is enjoyment first, with enough depth to spark questions and conversations at home and in the classroom.
Founder & author
Shuya Zhong
Dr Shuya Zhong is an Associate Professor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Bath. Her research uses mathematical modelling and optimisation to understand and improve real-world supply chain systems.
She founded Curious Workings to bring some of the hidden systems behind everyday life to young readers in a way that feels engaging, accessible and full of curiosity. Its first title, The Parcel’s Secret Journey from Click to Delivery, grew from her warehousing research and from a desire to help children see the people, decisions and technology behind something as familiar as a parcel arriving at the door.
